Swinging fun for Kids with Special Needs!

The Adaptive Swing with Chains is a full body swing. It can be used by all children, from babies who are just beginning to sit up on their own to school-aged children weighing up to 120 pounds. It is designed for children with movement-limiting handicaps. The Adaptive Swing offers children with special needs the chance to experience the exhilaration of swinging. The Adaptive Swing is designed to help meet the American Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines for playground equipment in public recreation.

It includes Harness, Chain, Shackles, and "S" Hooks.

1.      Can the adaptive swing hang by other swings? Yes.

2.      Should it be on an end? It does not have to be located on the end of a unit, however we advise something called common sense access. This simply means there should be a safe, straight shot to the swing for the child where they do not have to worry about interference of other swings hitting them while they attempt to get to the adaptive swing. While it does not have to be located on the end, it helps to reduce possible, avoidable collisions by placing the adaptive swing on the end. It is an easier access point for a child in a wheelchair or a child with limited abilities.

3.      How high  should it be hung from the ground? The typical safety regulations regarding the height of a swing seat from the ground (for elementary age children) is 24”.
